
Recommended for ages 3+ and their caregivers. Preschoolers, toddlers, and their grownups then visit the Mirken Education Classroom to have a snack and create their own works of art. Led by student interns during the academic year, this program includes a brief exploration of the museum, followed by reading a children’s book related to the month’s theme in our gallery spaces. Other resources available include sketching materials, looking activities, poetry writing prompts, and music playlists. The museum exhibits artifacts and memorabilia that trace the long. Bryant Museum opened its doors to the public on October 8, 1988.

Adults: 5 Children (K-12): 3 Free admission to University of Alabama faculty, staff, and students. Art-to-Go Bags are also available for check-out, and include picture books, puzzles, and looking games that can be used to engage with works of art in our gallery spaces. Bryant Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday. There are resources designed specifically for kids and families including our looking cards-Find the Rainbow, Know Your ABCs, and Gallery 1-2-3. Visitors can stop by the Art + Cart Station in the lobby for resources to activate a museum experience. During the pandemic, this offering has been transformed into an Art Boxes program, with participants signing up to receive a week of art-making materials (delivered to their homes) during school break time periods.

Space is limited, so registration is required in the spring. The camp culminates in an art show and final performance of both poetry and dance. Weekly thematic art classes for children in Grades K-5 and media specific classes. Over the course of three weeks in July, participants learn about art in the Colby College Museum of Art collection, make original artworks of their own, read and write poetry, and choreograph dances in response to works in the collection. Lively SpacesĮach summer the Colby College Museum of Art offers a free art, dance, and poetry camp for local third through seventh graders. Please note that some programs are still being assessed and adjusted, as we understand more about health and safety measures that need to be taken for children during the pandemic.
